KIGALI -The newly established Rwanda Transport Development Agency (RTDA) has put road safety high among its priorities.

Speaking to The New Times yesterday, the agency’s Managing Director said that their ambition is ensure safe movement and comfort in order to support economic development.

Dr Frederick Addo-Abedi said that a properly planned national road network facilitates the population to appropriately execute their tasks.

"People need to travel freely, comfortably and safely,” he said, "It favours both internal and external trade.”
Addo-Abedi added that comfort and safety can be ensured if there is a good design of roads in place.

"To avoid accidents, we must ensure that features of roads satisfy conditions of good roads. Slippery roads provoke accidents,” he explained.

Addo- Abedi pointed out that all road users should feel responsible for the protection of roads. The RTDA was founded in December last year to manage and develop road construction and rehabilitation projects.
