MUSANZE -The beneficiaries of the one cow per family programme  in Gacaca sector have passed on  25 exotic  heifers to other deserving families  from neighbouring sectors in Musanze district.

Residents gathered, to witness the ceremony  where each donor family meets the recipients to mark the beginning of  a mutual friendship.

Speaking during the function, the district vice Mayor, Jerome Mugenzi, advised the area residents to speed up the implementation of their set goals in order to uplift their economic status.

"This should be an encouragement to drive you in transforming agriculture by applying new and modern techniques,” Mugenzi said.

Heifer Project International-HPI, which had initially donated the cows to the area residents, was at hand to witness the hand over. The organization issued certificates of recognition to those who had successfully passed on the cows.

Dr. Denis Karamuzi the coordinator of HPI, asked the area residents to utilise the cows donated to improve their livelihoods.

Zirakamwa Cooperative which oversees the management of the cows in the rural communities was commended for ensuring the hand over.
