NEC rewards western region

KARONGI - The National Electoral Commission (NEC), last weekend, presented trophies and certificates of appreciation to exemplary officials who organised the August 9, Presidential elections in the Western Province.

KARONGI - The National Electoral Commission (NEC), last weekend, presented trophies and certificates of appreciation to exemplary officials who organised the August 9, Presidential elections in the Western Province.

Rutsiro District was recognized for having the highest voter turn up and having more valid votes while Gitesi sector in Karongi District and Boneza sector in Rutsiro, emerged best in the preparation of the process.

While handing over the prizes to the beneficiaries, NEC’s vice president Fatu Harerimana described the recipients as champions.

She said that the two districts of Rutsiro and Karongi had exhibited outstanding performance by being among the 11 districts which handed in provisional results on the Election Day August of 9.

"You all worked hard during the campaigns and the way you conducted the elections could not have been any better. You deserve recognition,” Harerimana said.

She appealed to local leaders in the province to continue with the spirit of nationalism and involve the public at all levels of leadership as the nation prepares for elections of all other local leaders.

At the colourful ceremony which attracted thousands of residents, Harerimana was also rewarded with various trophies in recognition of the NEC’s outstanding performance during the presidential election won by RPF.

Provincial Governor, Celestin Kabahizi pledged to maintain the civic education process to ensure that all Rwandans in the province are exposed to the democratic process on which government has embarked.
