Mr. & Miss Umutara Polytechnic crowned

NYAGATARE - Miss and Mr. Umutara Polytechnic University (UPU) were on Friday night, crowned at a colourful event, held at Greenland Bar and Restaurant, Nyagatare. The ceremony which is the first of its kind since the University’s inception was attended by hundreds of students, district officials, University staff, musician Kitoko and comedian Kanyombya.

NYAGATARE - Miss and Mr. Umutara Polytechnic University (UPU) were on Friday night, crowned at a colourful event, held at Greenland Bar and Restaurant, Nyagatare.

The ceremony which is the first of its kind since the University’s inception was attended by hundreds of students, district officials, University staff, musician Kitoko and comedian Kanyombya. The judges were model and fashion designer, Daddy de Maximo and Rwanda Television’s Evelyn Umurerwa.

Diane Mukeshimana, 22, a first year student in the faculty of ICT was crowned Miss UPU 2010, while Ivan Mutabazi emerged Mr. UPU.

Speaking to The New Times the beauty queen said: "I was very surprised to be named Miss UPU out of other contestants but, determination was the first tool I used to win.

Mutabazi said, "Promoting Rwandan culture will be his priority.”

The prizes include Rwf50, 000, a one year subscription with Belvedere Lines and Sotra—both travel and tours agencies.
