The UN must abstain from manipulation

A leaked UN draft report which alleges that the Rwandan military may have committed genocide crimes in the DR Congo is nothing but a climax of a politically-motivated conspiracy against the people and government of Rwanda.

Allegations that the Rwandan soldiers targeted Hutu civilians during the DR Congo war, that toppled dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, preposterous as they are, are not something new.

The difference is that this time round, the architects of these lies are working hard to manipulate the UN as a way of giving weight to their fabrications.

These lies should not be looked at in isolation. They are part of a broad attempt by a network of exiled Rwandan criminals and foreign elements, who are united in negating and minimizing the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

Most of these Rwandan fugitives are suspected to have played a role in the Genocide, in one way or another.
As is the case with the previous accusations, the aim of the new allegation is to discredit Rwanda’s leadership and its military, the same one that stopped the Genocide, something the UN failed to do.

Today, Rwandan troops are taking part in various peacekeeping missions around the world for which they have earned numerous international accolades for their high level of discipline and protecting innocent civilians.

Like all the previous lies, this one too, will fade away sooner than later.
