EC congratulates Kagame

KIGALI - Almost three weeks after the Presidential Elections, congratulatory messages for President Paul Kagame’s landslide victory continue to pour in, the latest being from the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.

KIGALI - Almost three weeks after the Presidential Elections, congratulatory messages for President Paul Kagame’s landslide victory continue to pour in, the latest being from the President of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso.

In his message, Barroso commended Rwanda for the peaceful organisation and calmness that characterised the August 9 polls as well as the huge turnout and pledged to continue working with Kagame for the next 7 years.

"Mr. President, on behalf of the European Commission, I would like to congratulate you for the successful organisation of the elections, and the Rwandan people for the calm atmosphere and very high turnout,”

"I look forward to working with you following your re-election, for a second term, and your government, in the consolidating stages of Rwanda’s reconstruction, development and democracy, and the continuation of our regular and frank dialogue with the Rwandan authorities,” Barroso’s statement reads in part.

He added that the European Commission which remains one of the biggest partners of development in Rwanda will remain committed to supporting Rwanda to overcome its challenges in regard to development and democracy.
