RUHANGO - Police in Ruhango district have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife on the evening of August 22 over alleged infidelity.

Police identified the suspect as François Sibomana, 36, a resident of Kizibere, in Mbuye sector.

The suspect confessed to killing his wife, Esperance Niyonagira, 28, accusing her of having extra marital affair with another man.

Sibomana said, "I killed her because I could not tolerate her sexual conduct which has been going on for a long time.”
Residents, while commenting on the murder incident said that the suspect has also been torturing the deceased for quite some time. Residents further added that this particular family has been accustomed to domestic quarrels.

Local leaders and residents have condemned the incident and called on families in the area to report cases of violence among couples so as to prevent such bizarre incidents.

Berthin Ngendahayo, the Executive Secretary of Mbuye Sector, stated that all families will be sensitised on the importance of living in harmony especially those  being seen to be having domestic quarrels.

"This incident calls for immediate action and educating married couples. However, residents should be in position to notify local leaders whenever such conflicts arise,” Ngendahayo said.

The suspect will be transferred to Muhanga prosecution authorities for formal charges this week.
