We must continue taking care of our own

Editor,

I laud Kicukiro District for giving out 92 houses to vulnerable families, which include Genocide survivors. These three-bed room houses have been constructed in two sites in Masaka: Rusororo and Gahanga sectors.

I support this initiative because we, as Rwandans through our own taxes, are supporting our own people and helping them live better lives.

The ability to take care of our own citizens is something that I treasure. Many outsiders believe that we, Africans, cannot live without foreign aid and assistance but I don’t believe this. The fact that Rwandans can provide for themselves assures me that true ‘independence’ is almost upon us. We must keep striving to be self-sufficient and proud.
