AFTER ending Kiyovu’s seven-year trophy drought by stirring the club to a 2-1 victory over Rayon Sport in Saturday’s Primus Cup final at Nyamirambo’s regional stadium, Jean Marie Ntagwabira has now fired a serious warning to local giants APR.

Ntagwabira, who won the league title with APR and Atraco, believes the Greens have enough fire power to push for the Primus league title when the new season kicks off next month.

After 12 minutes, Kiyovu were already cruising 2-0, after goals from Daddy Birori and Berci Mamuma.

Rayon pulled one back at the start of the second half when defender Bonaventure Hategekimana converted from the spot after Sina Jerome was impeded by Kiyovu defender Marcel Lomami.

However, Kiyovu held on to win the pre-season Cup. Ntagwabira now thinks this is a launching pad for his team to have a serious go at the league title this year.

"This victory is exactly what the players needed. As a club, we now need to keep this group together and only make one or two more signings,” Ntagwabira, who has also coached the national senior team (Amavubi Stars) in the past said.

While stressing that the team still needed two more players, Ntagwabira cleared the air when he confirmed that midfielder Arafat Serugendo was staying at the club.

"It is true that we want to beef up the side with two more signings-probably an attacking midfielder and right winger. As for Serugendo, he is still an integral member of the team.”

Kiyovu captain Fuad Ndayisenga has echoed his coach’s remarks saying that there is enough quality in the side to challenge for the league title.

"Winning the Primus Cup has given us the confidence that we can win the league title. It is going to be challenging but we are ready to give our all,” the former APR midfielder said.

The new league kicks off September 9.
