Huye - The International Educational Exchange (IEE), an American NGOs that operating under US embassy is set to train 28 English teachers this month.

Beth Witt, an American scholar and one of the instructors said that the training will attract 14 university students, under an internship programme of the teaching career, and 14 English teachers from Nyabihu and Gasabo districts.

She disclosed that this training will be held in Kigali and will last a couple of weeks, adding that the main purpose of this training is to improve qualitative education in Rwanda, through English as a language of instruction.

"Language is a key tool to transfer knowledge. We are, therefore, looking forward to preparing competent teachers who can effectively teach different subjects in English with ease,” she said  

Before the interns from the National University of Rwanda left for Kigali for the training, they participated in a conference that was held under the theme; ‘Language is a key to education. Education is a key to development.

Dr .Eric Dowyer, who officiated at the conference, said that choice of the theme intended at clearly defining the role of language in national development, adding that language remains a basic need to acquire knowledge offered at schools.
