KCC to build an additional 34km of city roads

KIGALI - With over 42 kilometres of roads in Kigali city now in their final construction phases, city authorities have announced they would add another 34 kilometres in the next 15 months.

KIGALI - With over 42 kilometres of roads in Kigali city now in their final construction phases, city authorities have announced they would add another 34 kilometres in the next 15 months.

Aimable Gasana Ndakengerwa, he City Director General, revealed this yesterday in an interview with The New Times.

"The project is now in Rwanda Public Procurement Authority (RPPA) but the works are supposed to kick off mid next month,” Ndakengerwa said.

Among the roads to be tarmacked, Ndakengerwa said, are Kibagabaga-Nyarutarama road, Gishushu-Urwego-Automobile Technical Control centre in Remera and Automobile Technical Control centre-Kishanga-GOBOKA, all in Gasabo District.

The roads are part of 109km which are supposed to be built to the tune of over Rwf 52bn in the financial year 2010/2011.

Ndakengerwa added that they are now working on the Detailed Master Plan of another 75km which are supposed to be constructed with in the same financial year.

"This is just the first phase of the whole road construction project in Kigali city in the year 2010/2011 and other phases will start as their detailed plans are complete,” he said.

This will bring tarmacked roads to 238km by the end of this financial year out of about 1000km in Kigali city.
