RWANDA Labour Market Information Systems (LMIS) will soon start conducting sectoral surveys in order to have updated data on labour which will be availed to all stakeholders, both in the public and private sectors.

The move was revealed by the acting Head of Human Capital and Institutional Development in RDB, Apollo Munanura.

According to Munanura, such surveys are instrumental in helping government to plan its work.

LMIS was established by the government two years ago to address the problem of lack of adequate and reliable information and data on the labour market which was seen as one of the key challenges to the country’s development.

At the time of formation, the programme was put under Workforce Development Authority (WDA), which was mandated to provide a strategic response to the skills development challenges facing the country across all sectors of the economy.

Munanura said that the programme was later transferred to RDB, which has since made arrangements for better results.

"Some of the achievements of the programme so far, include having been able to establish a website where employers are able to upload their vacancies while jobseekers can also upload their CVs,” said Munanura.

He said that the website also match vacancies to CVs and vice versa, provide information about training institutions and also publishes labour related information.

LMIS has also been able to come up with traceability study in the four institutions where WDA’s Technical and Vocational, Education and Training (TVET) programme is being piloted.

The institutions include IPRC Kavumu, Amizero Training Centre, Ecole Technique SOS and ETO Gitarama.

The activity consisted of tracing what graduates from these institutions are doing after completing their studies.
