Editor,

Through your paper, I would like to urge women to always come forward whenever they are abused by their partners. A man from Burera district recently handed himself to police after he hit his wife to death with a club (The New Times, Issue No 2199).

According to research, men are not violent abruptly. It is a habit that is picked up over time. And, if the women stay silent, it not only becomes acceptable to the men, but is also repeated.

I would like to appeal to all women to denounce such behavior, and any cases of abuse should be reported to the nearest authority.

Men too, should sensitize their counterparts who abuse their women. It is a continuous battle, whose win will be for all mankind.
