MUHANGA - Police in Muhanga District has arrested a man suspected of defiling a four-year old child.

Paolo Ngabisonga, alias Miyire, 45, was arrested yesterday morning, with collaboration of community policing officials in Gahogo cell, Nyamabuye sector.

"He is suspected to have sexually abused the victim. The medical results are being processed,” police said.

Police hailed residents for adhering to community security matters and urged them to always report such cases.

The child’s mother, said that the incident could have happened earlier on Tuesday, but the child informed her at 7pm, after her arrival from work.

The child complained of pains after urinating. When I inquired, she said that someone had fondled with her private parts,” the woman said.

"She later volunteered to show us the person and even indicated where the scene of the act.”

Residents told this reporter that the suspect is said to be HIV positive, expressing fear that he could have infected the child.

Joseph Nsanzabaganwa, the head of Gahogo community policing committees, said that the suspect has had a history of having affairs with many women.

However, Ngabisonga, denied the allegations, saying he had never seen the alleged victim, till he was arrested from a construction site where he worked in the neighbourhood.

Police said more evidence will be gathered from neighbours during the investigation before formerly charging the suspect.
