NYAGATARE - ADRA-Rwanda on Tuesday donated a honey extractor machine worth Rwf600, 000 to KOABMU- a bee keeping cooperative operating in Mukama sector, Nyagatare District.

Speaking to The New Times after handing over the machine to cooperative members, Charles Ndungutse, the Nyagatare-based project coordinator, said the donation is part of their poverty eradication efforts in rural areas.

"This donation is part of ADRA’s mission of developing rural population in Nyagatare district. We have been helping residents to carry out income generating activities like bee and poultry keeping and results have been successful,” he said.

Composed of 40 members, KOABMU specializes in bee keeping and poultry.
Ndungutse told members to put into good use the new machine, saying that it will improve the quantity and quality of their honey.

"This machine helps in extracting quality honey. You should put it into good use for your quality production,” he said.
Saidati Mukamunana, the cooperative president, thanked ADRA for the support.

"What ADRA has done for us is wonderful…we first worked in a disorderly manner without enough skills, but the training sessions they offered us have improved our honey production. We are currently harvesting over 150kgs of honey from 84 beehives per month,” she said.

"With the new machine we surely expect to get a profit Rwf400, 000 every month.”
