Burundi, Uganda to spice Beach volleyball tourney

Uganda and Burundi are set to spice up this year’s edition of the Beach volleyball tournament that is scheduled to take place this weekend in Rubavu. The two-day event will have three categories; veterans, men and women. The veterans will be comprised of nine teams; whereas the men and women will have 18 and 16 teams respectively.

Uganda and Burundi are set to spice up this year’s edition of the Beach volleyball tournament that is scheduled to take place this weekend in Rubavu.

The two-day event will have three categories; veterans, men and women. The veterans will be comprised of nine teams; whereas the men and women will have 18 and 16 teams respectively.

According to the technical director of the national volleyball federation, Christian Hatumimana, the involvement of Ugandan and Burundian teams will make the tournament more competitive and attractive to the fans.

"The involvement of Uganda and Burundi is going to make it an exciting and competitive tournament. Also, the prizes on offer have been revised and will attractive,” he said.

The best team in each category will pocket Frw 100.000; the first runners-up will get Frw 80.000, while the 3rd and 4th team will be given Frw 60.000 and Frw 40.000 respectively.

Jean Luc Mbonyuwontuma and Flavien Ndamukunda won the men’s category last year while Emilienne Uwineza and Jeannette Niyigena won the ladies’ battle.
