The East African Real Estate group will hold a two day Conference and Expo that begins today at Kigali Serena Hotels, the group’s Deputy President, Dismas Kizito Mokua, told Business Times, on Monday.

The expo will bring together key players, professionals and all dealers in the industry from Tanzania, Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda.

According to Mokua, the conference, will focus on exploring the emerging topics and issues that the industry encounters.

"This conference and expo are going to give an opportunity to, all players in the industry, exchange ideas, eventually learning from each other,” Mokua said.

Mokua explained that the Expo will highlight the affordable technology which will make housing units cheaper in the region.

Rwandan house units fall in a deficit of 20,000 out of the estimated 25,000 per year and Mokua said that they will also be focusing on bridging the gap to create a more vibrant market.

He also added that the key players will be looking at ‘Service the Land’ where the government will provide facilities like roads and the developer will just have to build houses, which will reduce the cost of houses.

"We will also focus on how to make mortgages affordable to mid and low income groups and mainly tackling all issues regarding real estates in the region,” Mokua said.

"According to records, the country has a flexible business environment and with the Convention Centre coming up, this is a big opportunity for all dealers to back it up with facilities like hospitals, which is a big opportunity for us,” he added.
