GATSIBO - Residents of Rugarama sector, Gatsibo district are set to benefit from the construction of a modern market worth Rwf339 million, an official has said.

Speaking to The New Times, the district Mayor, Anselme Rurangwa Majoro, said that the market will replace the old one and it could be ready within the next six months.

Financed by Community Development Fund (CDF), the Mayor added that the new market will not only enhance commercial activities in the district but also develop Rwagitima town.

Residents who talked to The New Times welcomed the move. "The market will no doubt boost the value we get from our products,” Vestine Mutumwinka, one of the traders at Rwagitima market said.

According to the Mayor, the construction programme is on course. So far, Rurangwa revealed, the district has moved beyond hiring the contractor who has been paid legal 40 percent advance.

"Construction process will kick off soon because this modern market is part of our performance contracts signed in this year’s 2010/2011 district fiscal year,” he said.
