Crime doesn’t pay nor does bribery

Editor, It’s unfortunate that people think that they can break the law and then attempt to bribe themselves out of the jam. I guess that it’s because they’ve done it in other countries; however, they should know that corruption is extremely frowned upon here in Rwanda.

Editor,

It’s unfortunate that people think that they can break the law and then attempt to bribe themselves out of the jam. I guess that it’s because they’ve done it in other countries; however, they should know that corruption is extremely frowned upon here in Rwanda.

A case in point is a truck driver, who attempted to bribe traffic Police in Ruhango District, and ended up being arrested. Focus Hitimana attempted to offerRwf10.000 bribe to two traffic officers who had flagged him down and found he had no driving permit. Now instead of paying a fine for driving without a permit, he is now going to spend time in jail.

I’m of the view that long jail terms for bribery and corruption are the only way to remove this cancer from our society. I want to thank the two police officers for their straight-ness. It would have been easy to accept the bribe but they were better than that. I believe that is what true patriotism is all about.
