RTV to screen Premier League

After signing Rwf 82.5m deal with Osmi

Local European fans are in for treat after the national television, RTV agreed a deal with Optima Sports Management International to screen the most popular European league, the English Premier League.

Rwanda Television will also show live German Bundesliga, Europa Cup and as well as the Uefa Champions League.
The land mark deal which will last for one year and will cost Orinfor Rwf 82.5m was signed yesterday by the Acting Director of the National Bureau of Information and Broadcasting (Orinfor) Willy Rukundo and Doza Loua, the Francophone Account Executive for Osmi at Orinfor headquarters in Kigali.

In the one-year deal, each weekend, Rwanda television will be screening one Premier League match and one match of the German Bundesliga plus matches of the Europa Cup and the Uefa Champions league.

After the brief signing ceremony, Rukundo told Times Sport that football fans will watch Europe’s elite leagues in the comfort of their homes and that Rwanda television has plans of including the Spanish La Liga in the near future.

"European football is very popular in the country and many fans have been walking long distances to watch these matches but starting tomorrow (today) that will be no more. 

"Local football fans will now watch their favourite teams in the comfort of their homes,” a beaming Rukundo said.

The new English Premier League kicks off today, which the German Bundesliga starts next weekend. The Europa Cup is always underway.
