DESPITE disappointing defeats to Ghana’s U-17 and the junior team of Ghana’s premier division side Liberty FC, the local governing football body, Ferwafa will not strengthen the national U-17 side ahead of the Cecafa Development Cup which starts on Saturday in Asmara, Eritrea.

Ferwafa Chief Executive Officer, Jules Kalisa told Times Sport yesterday that despite the two back-to-back loses, the federation has no intention of overhaul the junior side for the regional championships.

"There is need to change or add anything to the squad, the team that has been in Ghana is the same team that will play in the regional youth championship in Eritrea,” noted Kalisa while responding to a question whether the federation has any intention to beef up the team after the defeats in a space of three days.

He added, "It’s good for them be playing high quality opposition especially that the same team will represent Rwanda (hosts) at next year’s Africa U-17 Youth Championships.”

"We don’t mind whether they lose all matches in Eritrea, what we want is to have an experienced and strong side ready for Africa Youth Championship next year,” said Kalisa.
The Junior Wasps lost their second build match to Liberty U-20 side 2-4 on Tuesday. Isaiah Songa scored a brace for Rwanda.

On Sunday, they suffered a humiliating 5-1 loss to Ghana’s Black Starlet in Accra. The team arrived in Kenya last night. All teams are assembling in Nairobi today before being chartered to Asmara for the Cecafa Youth Championships.

In Eritrea, Rwanda’s team will open her quest against archrivals Uganda on August 16; play Zanzibar two days later before winding up their group campaign against Yemen on August 20.
