NYAGATARE/karongi -Hundreds of Umutara Polytechnic University students on Tuesday joined Nyagatare residents to celebrate Monday’s RPF land slide victory.

Led by University Vice rectors for administration and finance, Richard Kalimba and Dr. Eugene Ndabaga in charge of academics, the evidently excited students marched from the University grounds to Nyagatare town round about, before turning towards Blue Sky Hotel.

Speaking to The New Times, scores of students said they were overjoyed.

"It was an amazing morning. An amazing morning to hear that RPF candidate won with a landslide victory. I was in my hostel listening to the radio and on hearing news that Kagame had won a second 7-year term I started celebrating,” Stephen Gasore, a second year student said. 

"Since the last 16 years, I have been following Kagame’s wise decisions in transforming this country. He deserved this term with massive support.”

The students, who earlier joined in RPF campaigns in the district, sang RPF victorious songs, Intsinzi, as they shouted around Nyagatare town.

"Imagine a man who stopped Genocide when the world was leisurely observing. He has now embarked on offering 12 years of free education. How can you decline to give your strong support to him?” another student who was only identified as Eric said.  

"He is a man of integrity…who always spends sleepless nights to ensure security of Rwandans and development.”
Meanwhile, excited residents of Karongi District yesterday also marched through

Kibuye town in celebration of Monday’s RPF victory.
Carrying placards and banners bearing congratulatory messages hailing President Paul Kagame for his outstanding achievements, the residents chanted songs of praise to the RPF.

Addressing the marchers, Mayor Bernard Kayumba, congratulated the residents for massively voting the president in order to continue his good ambitious work.

"It is impressive that our residents overwhelmingly voted for Kagame and this massive support shows that he has achieved a lot of good things for Rwandans,”
Kayumba told the crowd.

Most of the residents who talked to The New Times vowed to emulate the good principles of Kagame who is now set and determined to drive the country through
extra development in the next seven years.

"It is very exciting that Kagame has won the election because we knew right from the beginning that he was the right person to lead our country to greater
heights,” Nepo Muhayimana, one the excited residents said.

After the elections on Monday, preliminary results showed Kagame leading with an overwhelming majority of 92.9% but final results are yet to be communicated by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
