RWANDA is ranked second behind Uganda but ahead of Zimbabwe in Africa in the latest World Rally Rakings released by the world motor sport governing body, FIA on Wednesday.

Despite the sport not being very popular (yet), Rwanda came in at 34th position with 2124 points in the world rankings out of 39 countries.  Uganda leads Africa’s ranking at 27th position with 2754 points, while Zimbabwe is third being Rwanda in 38th with 1701 points.

Surprisingly, Rwanda managed to beat Zimbabwe despite the recent victory of James Whyte in Zambia international rally. Whyte is also the reigning African champion. Only three African countries appear on the list.

Whyte beat Rwanda’s top driver Giancarlo Davite to the top spot after the Italy-born driver crushed his Subaru Impreza on day two of the race and is in pole position to retain to retain the African Rally Championship.

With the Toyota Zimbabwe Challenge Rally still to come on August 27-29, Whyte leads the ARC drivers’ standings with 180 points, while Davite is second with 104 points.
