RWANDA’S U-20 team left for Accra this morning (Friday 3.00am) to play two friendly matches before preceding to Asmara, Eritrea to participate in the Cecafa Youth Development Cup scheduled, which starts August 14 to 28.

The Junior Wasps will battle their counterparts from Ghana on Sunday before facing off Sellas Tetteh’s former side Liberty FC two days later.

According to the local football federation, the junior wasps will connect to Eritrea on August 12 via Nairobi. Although the tournament is for the U-20s, Rwanda will field the U-17 team as a way of prepring it for next year’s African U-17 Youth Championships which will be held on January 7-22 in Kigali.

The team’s new French coach Richard Tardy said yesterday, "I have a good team. In the few days I have been with them, they’ve shown real potential and I hope they will put on a good performance.”

Tardy is assisted by veteran coach Aloys Kanamugire and Vincent Mashami.

Rwanda will open her quest against archrivals Uganda on August 16; play Zanzibar two days later before winding up their group campaign against Yemen on August 20.

The tournament will cost a tune of $1 million (Over Frw570m) and prize money worthy $18,000 has been staked for the winners. The winner will pocket $10,000 while first and second runners will bag $5,000 and $3,000.
