MUHANGA - the Liberal Party (PL) candidate, Prosper Higiro has said that his hopes for winning the August 9 Presidential polls are still high, hardly a week to the election date.

The PL flag bearer said that the campaign has been successful throughout the countryside and residents have welcomed the party in big and small numbers despite a few challenges.

"There is hope for victory and residents have been very good and welcoming. The party has however met some difficulties due to internal structures and minimal resources, but we (PL) are still hopeful of winning these polls,” Higiro said.

Higiro was speaking yesterday to both local and foreign journalists after holding a colourful rally in Nyamabuye Sector, Muhanga District.

He remarked that despite the few participants at some of the rallies, there have been large crowds in other areas, which he said has given him hope to push on the presidential run.

"The numbers of residents attending the rallies don’t matter. The most important issue is the outcome of the final vote on the ballot papers. We are ready for this,” he remarked.

While in Muhanga, Higiro rallied over 400 residents at the Station SP grounds amidst chants and songs of victory.
He was welcomed in a parade of PL flags carried by mostly youthful supporters who chanted his name for president.

Higiro promised that once elected, he would improve the standards of agricultural and livestock production in the district, by capitalizing on putting the marshlands and plantations into proper use.

He said that improvement of agricultural production and increase of gross domestic product in all sectors is vital to solving the problems of Rwandans and boosting rural development at the same pace with Kigali City.

He also promised to provide electricity, clean water, better health services, and skill-based education, improve the justice sector and service delivery to residents.

"Our political agenda is very clear and most citizens know that PL has, for the last 19 years, strived to improve the welfare of Rwandans. Your votes will affirm the desire to have this agenda implemented.”

Higiro pointed out that service delivery, imbalance in trade and quality education geared at improving the welfare, are the biggest and unresolved problems of Rwandans, of which he will address at the pinnacle of his leadership.
