Nhamburo ‘satisfied’ with Rwanda’s form ahead of U19 Women’s World Cup

The Rwandan U19 women’s team beat Indonesia by five runs, lost to New Zealand by 63 runs and they on Wednesday bounced back with a dramatic victory over Ireland by one run during their final friendly.

Rwanda U19 women’s cricket team head coach Leonard Nhamburo can only speak positively about his players after an impressive performance during the pre-tournament warmup games.

The Rwandan U19 women’s team beat Indonesia by five runs, lost to New Zealand by 63 runs and they on Wednesday bounced back with a dramatic victory over Ireland by one run during their final friendly game from which and the Zimbabwean gaffer lauded the team’s state of performance ahead of the world cup finals in South Africa.

"The games we have played are good in terms of testing our standard as compared to other teams. Looking at how we played, we are not very far." Nhamburo told Weekend Sport.

"Of the four games that we played, we won two ,lost once and tied once. We lost to New Zealand and won against Ireland. It gives us confidence moving forward," he added.

Nhamburo further praised the strong mental fortitude of his players, especially when they are through difficult moments of the game.

"They are also learning to win matches in any situation,” he said.

Rwanda is paired in Group B alongside Pakistan, England and Zimbabwe. They will open their accounts against Pakistan Sunday, January 14 at the Senwes Park in Potchefstroom.
