Editor,
I was disappointed with the manner in which the sports writers described performance in the 17th African Championship in Nairobi, Kenya. While she placed 10th in the women’s 10000m, I think that it is cruel to label her performance ‘feeble’.

I believe that she tried her best, trained in the best way she could and I think that its better if we supported our athletes better.

Very often when the national soccer team doesn’t do as we all hope, I see many people quickly rush to call them all sorts of names, while urging the sacking of the coach.

I find this attitude unfortunate. We need to first analyze why they aren’t as successful before we rush to criticize them. Maybe we aren’t giving them enough support.

Personally, I want to thank all the athletes who represented us because they did their best. That is all we should ask from them.
