HUYE- Researchers at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), in the faculties of Agriculture, Economics and Management, will in September embark on a research about food security in Rwanda.

The Dean of the Agriculture Faculty, Dr. Daniel Rukazambuga Ntirushwa, said their research aims at tackling food insecurity in the country.

He pointed out that there is need for research to see how food production can match the growing population. "The rate of population growth is fast in Rwanda yet land remains fixed. It can be dangerous for society if serious measures are not taken,” the Dean said.

 "Since our research will be conducted up to district level, we hope that it will be helpful for the community”.

Alphonse Niyibeshaho, an official in Rwanda Agricultural Development Authority (RADA), welcomed the move, saying findings of the research would help them and the Ministry of Agriculture in tackling food insecurity.

Dassan Hategekimana, from the nutrition department in the Ministry of Education, told The New Times that they have been working with researchers at NUR to achieve their goal and he hopes that the new research will be helpful.
