Chameleon

AT this juncture, music diehards know who performed at the grand opening of FESPAD.

From Uganda’s Chameleon, to DRC’s Koffi Olomide and Tanzania’s AY, we enjoyed performances by some of Africa’s finest artists.

I did not get a chance to be at Amahoro Stadium, but was lucky to be at Planet Club, where Chameleon and AY staged an exhilarating performance and I really enjoyed the show.

While I enjoyed the music and the performances, I was also privy to some side drama from revellers. Below I share with you what happened at Planet.

The gig

Chameleon is a star, but one in the making is AK47, his teenage brother. The pint size lad is not only a spitting image of his brother, has also mirrored his hoarse voice. Chameleon, who freestyled with AY, later let his young brother take the central stage of free styling...and boy, did the kid rock!

Who is Gaetano?

For those of you who watched Big Brother Africa I, or regularly watch MNET’s Studio 53, must be familiar with this charming presenter, Gaetano Kagwa.

But forgive some Rwandans for not being familiar with TV celebrities. When a certain Ugandan guy started going around, asking everyone in the club to meet Gaetano, the question that dominated was, Gae…what?

VD Frank Chameleone’s bouncer?

VD Frank, a local artist, who is known more for his hairstyles, blings and earrings than his music. But that’s a story for another day. After Chameleon wraps up his three episode performance with his group, he is followed by groupies all who either want to take photos with him or just interested in sharing a ‘light moment’ with him.

Among this rowdy group is VD Frank, who immediately takes it upon himself to be Chameleon’s bouncer.  He cordons off Chameleon’s area and immediately takes over who crosses to the side where the Ugandan singer is sitting and who doesn’t?

Family Squad really…?

I have always been a fan of Family Squad, but what happened to their voices? Sparxx tried to sing but his voice couldn’t come out. I even started wondering if it has anything to do with the sunglasses he was wearing at 3.00 a.m...Strange!
