The Presidential candidate for Peace and Concord (PPC), Dr Alivera Mukabaramba, yesterday held her first campaign rally in the Northern Province, at Cyanika football stadium where she unveiled the party’s manifesto ahead of the August 9 presidential elections.

Dr Mukabaramba, who was accompanied by a team of PPC campaigners and supporters, arrived at the rally at 2 p.m., dressed in blue T-shirts and white caps. She was received by about 150 supporters, who carried placards and danced to loud music.

A team of PPC, supporters travelling with the candidate thrilled the crowd distributing party T-shirts and caps, while others carried big posters of their candidate.

In her speech, Mukabaramba, the only woman in the race, promised that when voted in office, she will promote social welfare of the citizens, ensure free education at all primary and secondary levels, and increase teachers’ salaries.     

She added that she will embark on reducing poverty levels in the community by promoting vocational schools, which will produce job creators, and also help those still living in grass-thatched houses find better housing.

"Everyone should exercise their rights to make the choice, and PPC, is committed to promoting democracy…vote for PPC for good health, unity, equality, regional integration and justice,’’ Mukabaramba said.

Among the attendees were supporters from other political parties who hailed the campaigns as peaceful and calm.
Felecien Nkundizanye, 50, said that whereas he supports RPF, he was happy that all contenders were free to articulate their ideas.

"I came here to listen to what she has for us, we need to hear from all of them, but she has promised most of the things the government is doing now,’’  Nkundizanye  said.
