Rwanda Film Festival Ends

On Friday, July 23 at Kigali Serena Hotel, amid loud applause and an exhilarating crowd, Rwanda Film Festival summed up their week long screenings.

The closing night of the Festival, was graced by a spectacular and colourful concert by local artists, The Brothers, Faysal and finally the guest singer Lokua Kanza.
Indeed the 6th Rwanda Film Festival was the finesse of local filmmakers some of who went home with awards.

Among them was an upcoming Hillywood Director, Fionah Mukundente, who was voted for the ‘Best Hillywood Film’ after her film ‘Kezalella’.

Other films that scooped awards were ‘Soul Boy’ by Ghanaian-Kenyan female filmmaker, Hawa Essuman won the ‘Best Feature Film’ and ‘Sound Track Evolution’ for ‘Best Documentary’ by Bill Guttentag and Dan Sturnman, both from USA.

The annual film festival is organised by Rwanda Cinema Centre, and aims at promoting a culture of film in the country by encouraging young filmmakers into the business. The 13-day festival featured films from different parts of the region and across the globe.

The theme for this year’s film festival was ‘Africa Celebrated’ and focused on the FIFA World Cup, which was held for the first time in Africa.
