HUYE - Beginning next academic year, incoming and continuing students at the National University of Rwanda (NUR), will be able to register online, the University Academic Registrar has revealed.

Emmanuel Havugimana, said the new system would minimize time wasting normally spent queuing at the registrar’s office and at banks.

"This system aims to enhance service delivery at NUR and simplify the registration process. Everyone will register from a nearby cyber café instead of travelling to our office,” said Havugimana.

Students who spoke to The New Times welcomed the development, saying it will save them time and money they used to spend on transport to go for registration.

"This is a wonderful idea, I used to spend Rwf10,000 on transport to report for registration…I will probably use  only Rwf 500 with the new development,” said Jean Claude Kalisa, a second-year Agriculture student.

Célestin Mbonabucya, the online registration webmaster, explained that the registrar’s office will be able to access students’ database and new students will easily know their faculties online.

The system will speed up the process of acquiring students’ cards that used to take about five months, he said. NUR currently has about 11,000 students who are usually given less than one month to register.
