On Friday 16, 2010, Rwanda Cinema Centre officially launched the 6th Edition of the Rwanda Film Festival. Under the theme ‘Africa Celebrated’ a crowd filled Kigali Serena Hotel to experience the power of film.

Three films were screened: Two local short films—‘Stressed’ a comedy directed by Rwanda’s Malika Banyundo and ‘Inside’ a horror directed by Joseline Uwase were followed with director Thierry Michel’s ‘Katanga Business’ a well documented film which he said is, "is a expose of the globlaisation of minerals and the politics of mining in the Democratic Republic of Congo.”
In his opening remarks, Pierre Kayitana, CEO of Rwanda Cinema Centre, who was the Master of Ceremony  said that the "Rwanda’s film industry is slowly moving away from only  making sad genocide movies, but has also incorporated  comedies and horrors to suit a wider audience.”
Several films have been screened throughout the week in various locations such as Shokola African Café, Heaven Restaurant, the American Embassy, Gothe-Institut, Maison des Jeunes de Kimisigara, National University of Rwanda, Hotel de Mille Collines among other places.
The closing night will be this evening, June 23, at Serena Hotel where two short films, ‘Pumzi’ by Wanuri Kahiu and ‘Soul Boy’ by Hawa Essuman will be screened. Thereafter a live concert by legendary Lokua Kanza will wrap up the Film Festival.
