Rwandan Darfur battalion decorated

Another batch of Rwandan peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan, has been decorated with the Peace Award. Officers and men of Rwanbatt 20, (59 inf BN) received  the medals late last week in Northern Darfur.

Another batch of Rwandan peacekeepers in Darfur, Sudan, has been decorated with the Peace Award.

Officers and men of Rwanbatt 20, (59 inf BN) received  the medals late last week in Northern Darfur.

According to a statement by the UNAMID Force Commander, Lt. Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba, the force commander, accompanied by Sector   Commander, Sector North, and other senior staff officers from the headquarters, presided over ceremony.

"It is worthy to note, that RWANBATT 20 has contributed immensely to the protection of civilians and to the process of confidence building through its patrols and robust operations,” said Gen. Nyamvumba.

"Your work has indeed facilitated the peace and reconciliation process. You have undertaken and executed delicate tasks and the success of your operations is an eloquent testimony to your professionalism and experience.

"Above all, you have made your country to be proud by upholding the commitment of your Government to the joint efforts of the African Union and the United Nations to assist in bringing peace, stability and development to Darfur” Nyamvumba said.
