The national technical director for the local boxing association (Raba), Gashuji Kananura has said that the Algeria Olympics qualifiers are unnecessary after citing incompetent preparations on Raba’s part.

The qualifiers are scheduled for January 22 and Gashuji said, "Algeria is not necessary now. We should have started intensive training a month ago. Other countries have been in residential training for the last 30 days”.

"Going to Algeria would be a waste of money and time which would otherwise be used to prepare for the second qualifiers scheduled for March 22 in Namibia,” he noted.

Local boxers are expected to be in Algeria by January 19 if the Ministry of Sports (Mijespoc) and the Rwanda National Olympics Committee (RNOC) insist on Rwanda participating.

"We should start preparations for the Namibia event right away. There is no gambling in any ring and participation without enough preparations is like gambling” Gashuji emphasized.

Boxers are currently training in their respective clubs as they wait to enter residential training.
