The Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) remains green about Angelline Nyiransabimana’s safety in the wake of post election violence in Kenya.

The long distance athlete has been undergoing training at Eldoret training center since last year in preparation for this year’s World Cross Country Championship in Edinburgh, Scotland in March as well as the Beijing Olympics in August.

The federation secretary general, Appolinaire Munyangoga says that though they have not been in contact with Nyiransabimana of late, they believe she is safe.

"We have not talked since the violence started but she should be fine. Our major concern should be that the violence has disrupted her preparations for the World Cross country as well as future African championships," Munyangoga said.

Meanwhile, Athletics Kenya has formally called off the Eldoret and Nyahururu athletics meets following the continued chaos in Kenya.

The Nyahururu race was to be run last weekend with the Eldoret one initially slated for January 15.

It is reported that the violence in Kenya has affected both athletes’ preparations and the Kenya sport’s calendar.

Like Rwanda, some of the major events lined up for Kenya include the IAAF Permit Cross Country Meeting in Edinburgh, Scotland, in March and Olympic Games in Beijing in August.
