Twenty six athletic clubs are scheduled to compete in this year’s bi-monthly inter-clubs, Rwanda Athletics Federation (RAF) Secretary General said.

"We have requested all provinces and Kigali City to participate in the next inter-club competition," said Munyangoga.

If Munyangoga’s projections go through, the club tally will rise from 21 to 26 and the SG believes that the increase in club number will help step up competition.

The clubs will participate in the 5th edition of the inter-clubs scheduled for January.

Munyangoga, however, said that the names of the five clubs are to be disclosed by the respective Provinces.

RAF organized the first national championship last year primarily to attract remote athletics and increase the number of clubs in the country.

Unlike last year, this year’s inter-club edition will be prized with Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in addition to certificates.

Meanwhile, clubs are in intensive training for the inter-clubs.

Amongst them are APR athletics club, New Athletic Star, Police, Puma, Gatenga, Gasabo, UNR, Kirehe, Nyamasheke, Ruhango, Huye, Muhanga, Kamonyi, Rulindo, Burera, Gicumbi, Rutsiro, ADD Nyabihu, Urumuli and Rusizi.
