MUSANZE – Eighteen families which were displaced by landslides triggered by water gushing from the Virunga Mountains in Muko sector, Musanze district, have received iron sheets for their new houses.

The 560 iron sheets were donated by World Vision Rwanda, through the Disaster Management Task force-DMTF, in conjunction with the Ministry of Disaster preparedness.

Justin Kayira, the in charge of humanitarian affairs in World Vision, said that the donation was part of their wider effort to help affected families/communities resettle.

Cyprian Gatete, from the Ministry of Disaster Preparedness, said that the Ministry will ensure that all the affected residents are resettled.

The May 15 landslides destroyed several houses and killed 11 people from three villages of Sangano, Karebero and Ntundo in Kivugiza cell, Muko and Busogo sectors.
