Third division football has been put on a hold by the local football governing body (Ferwafa), Times Sport has learnt.

According to a Ferwafa official in charge of football development, Alloys Kanamugire, the federation has tasked five coordinators to sensitize players and other stake holders from the country’s five provinces.

"Coordinators have started the process from the grassroot level. We want to have teams registering by February. For the league to start, we want six teams from each province," Kanamugire explained.

Initially, Ferwafa had anticipated the league to largely center around the thirty districts that competed in last year’s Good Governance Cup.

Kanamugire noted that on joining, clubs would be given Ferwafa modal of legal statutes to help them legalize their clubs.

It is also reported that none of the 345 level-one coaches has come up with a potential team for the league.

Kanamugire says that these coaches were urged to form teams soon after completing their courses.

"We are following them up to see how far they have gone with the task that was availed over to them,"

Meanwhile, all clubs in the two divisions and the potential third one were requested to seek legal status as required by the Ministry of Sports, Mijespoc.
