RWAMAGANA - Four people died instantly when a Tanzanian registered trailer, was involved in a head-on collision with a Rwanda registered Toyota Dyna pick- up and immediately caught fire yesterday.

The accident occurred along the Rwamagana- Kigali high way, in Munyiginya sector of Rwamagana district at about 4.pm.

All occupants of the Pick-up died instantly, while the trailer driver, only identified as Ramadhan, and his conductor, suffered minor injuries.

According to Supt Vincent Kamanzi, the Rwamagana District Police Commander, the accident was caused by the over speeding pick-up that tried to avoid an equally reckless motorbike, and ended up colliding with a trailer coming from the opposite direction.

"It is evident that the vehicle that was heading to Rwamagana found the trailer in its position. So, as we still gather the details, we also see the reality,” he said.

Jean Claude Tuyisenge, an eye witness told The New Times that he saw pick-driving in a zigzag way, before it hit the trailer and the motorbike.

"It was a terrible accident…even the motor bike rider could die any time. When I saw the way the pick- was moving, I sensed danger. We tried to pull out the people but we couldn’t make it; it was a trying moment,” he said.
The motorcyclist was still in comma by press time.
