NYAGATARE - Residents of Karama Sector, Nyagatare District have hailed President Paul Kagame for living to his promises in the past seven years of his first term.

The residents made the remarks on Monday during a ceremony to evaluate the achievements attained during President’s first term of office.

Organised by the Ministry of Information, the ceremony attracted heads of various departments in both local and central governments, where several achievements were highlighted.

The programme that started in April, gives residents an opportunity to make their own assessment, of what has been achieved in the judicial, health, education and other sectors.

After the presentation by heads of departments, residents were given time to comment on some of the pledges that were fulfilled by the President.

The residents thanked the President for extending electricity to villages, land consolidation policy and the cattle re-stocking programme of One Cow-per-household.

"He is an enterprising President…he said he would give us electricity and we now have it. The problem of lack of television signals in the area has been solved. We thank him for his successful pledges,” Celestin Rukundo, one of the residents said.

Speaking to The New Times in an interview, Desire Bazimaziki, an official in the Ministry of Information, said that it is crucial that residents are able to know what has been achieved by the President through the media.

"We organised such event for local leaders to address residents on the achievements in the last seven years of President Kagame’s term,” he said.

"This programme facilitates residents to get first hand information on developmental activities that have been achieved”.
