Police in Musanze district, are holding a 25-year old man who allegedly defiled a 13-year old girl, after handcuffing her.

Pascal Nshimiyimana, a resident of Mpenge Cell, Ruhengeri town, was arrested by residents before being handed over to Police.

The residents broke into his house after a tip off from another girl who had seen him lead the victim inside.
The victim, a primary four pupil, revealed that the suspect handcuffed her, warned her against reporting the matter, before repeatedly defiling her.

"He started by accusing me of stealing his music CD, and called me into his house. He immediately closed the door and threatened to kill me if I made noise,” the girl, names withheld said.

"He held me, handcuffed me and raped me.”
Police recovered over 500 sachets of marijuana in the suspect’s house, a litre of an illegal local brew known as Kanyanga, and the handcuffs he allegedly used in the assault.

"I was called by neighbours when news spread that a certain man was raping my daughter. We mobilised people to break into the house after the man had refused to open the door. We found him hiding in the ceiling and we took him to the Police,’’ the girl’s father said.

Nshimiyimana, who is being detained at Muhoza Police Station, hails from Kimironko, Kigali City.

He, however, denied the accusations, arguing that medical reports will prove him innocent, adding that the handcuffs belonged to a demobilized soldier with whom they shared the house.
