German delegation visits KIST

A 17-man delegation from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern (TUK) in Germany is in Kigali to foster partnership with the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

A 17-man delegation from the Technical University of Kaiserslautern (TUK) in Germany is in Kigali to foster partnership with the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology (KIST).

The delegation yesterday toured several faculties and departments in order to access the institute’s capacities.

Speaking to The New Times, the president of Rwandan students studying at TUK, Paul Umukunzi, said that the visit was going to be instrumental in increasing knowledge especially for lecturers at KIST.

"We came with a group of fourteen professors from TUK who are knowledgeable particularly in the field of civil engineering. So we believe that their interaction with their Rwandan counterparts will be of great value to KIST,” he said.

Umukunzi further said that the visit was going to be an opportunity to KIST since they are going to share research findings and get a chance to learn how civil engineering technology has advanced in Germany.

In an interview, the head of the German delegation, Prof. Jurgen Schnell, revealed that their visit aimed of finding areas for future cooperation, especially in the field of construction design,” said Schnell.

The visitors were also impressed by Rwanda’s development efforts. and said that they were going to possibly finance some projects for the benefit of the Rwandan students.

There are 50 Rwandan students sponsored by the Rwandan government studying at TUK.
