RULINDO - As part of the ongoing Army Week, members of the Rwanda Defence Forces in the Northern Province are working on a project that will see over 20,000 residents of three sectors in Rulindo District get clean water.

Last Sunday, the soldiers and residents installed a water pumping machine to extend water to Kigarama Cell, in Masoro Sector, 3.5km away from the nearest water source.
The soldiers also constructed a 2.5km road to the water source.

"We are extremely happy about the RDF humanitarian gesture of providing us with clean water. This area has experienced water scarcity for many years,” said Joseph Mutabazi, a resident of Kigarama Cell.

Mutabazi added that neighboring residents of Jabana Sector, Gasabo District, are also set to benefit from the project.

The RDF 408 Brigade commander, Brig. General Eric Murokore, said a total of 115 houses have also been constructed for poor residents of Gicumbi and Burera districts.

"Iron sheets and nails have already been procured and the roofing is in progress,” said Murokore.
