Kigali Basketball Club wrapped up their first round campaign in style after climbing back on top of the national basketball league table.

The league debutants cruised to back to back wins over UGB (82-55) and Ferwaba Select (64-46) to move to 15 points, one clear of reigning champions APR, who also ended their first round campaign on a positive note after trouncing Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) 67-48.

The result also means that KIE end the first round with just one win (53-49) in eight matches. KBC coach Pierre Gategabondo is full of praise for the team after a thrilling first round.

"The team exceeded our expectations and we have to acknowledge that,” he said before adding, "But we still have a long way to go. We need to keep working hard in training and staying focused at the task ahead.”

Gategabondo singled out Fiston Muhire as KBC‘s central player after averaging 20 points in the first round.

In the women league, KIE were humiliated by reigning champions APR (20-63), National University of Rwanda (NUR) thrashed St. Joseph 79-58  while G.S Karubanda landed default points against ISAE.
