RWANDA’s Happiness Kabatesi, who was contesting for the Miss East Africa UK crown lost to Eritrea’s Randa Shebly. The finals took place on July 3 at central hall in Westminster, London. Countries represented in the contest were Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, Eritrea, Somalia, Somaliland and Djibouti.

Kabatesi told The New Times that the contestants were selected according to the amount of tickets they sold.
However, she noted that she had an amazing experience during the competition and made contacts with various people in the business sector.
"Even if I didn’t win the competition, I represented my country as well as the culture,” the confident Kabatesi added.
The 22-year, who is pursuing her studies from Caledonian University in Glasgow, has urged Rwandans to support whoever will take a step like she did, in next year’s Miss EA/UK contests.
During the pageant, Kabatesi‘s "Passionate Warriors” dance troupe performed. The dance troupe is based in Paisley, Scotland and supports underprivileged children in Rwanda.
The winners of Mr. /Miss East Africa UK walked away with cash prizes to assist them with their business ventures.
The Mr. and Miss East Africa UK project is aimed at helping young East Africans to become successful in their ambitions through providing support to start business and charities within East Africa.
