NYAMASHEKE - After emerging best in this week’s evaluation of the implementation of last year’s performance contracts, Nyamasheke District has attributed the excellent performance to cooperation and unity among officials at all levels of leadership.

In an interview with Mayor Jean Baptiste Habyarimana, he said that residents also played a major role in the achievement.

"There was much collective input by all district officials, but most importantly, the residents also made fundamental contributions,” said Habyarimana.

From 9th position last year, Nyamasheke emerged best with a record 79% achievement this year under the leadership of the new mayor, and it toppled two-time winner, Nyamagabe District from the top spot.

"We have a big number of residents who have unwaveringly contributed to the economic development of our district,” Habyarimana, who is former Executive Secretary  of District, said.

He pointed out outstanding achievements in Infrastructure
development, justice and good governance and improvement of residents’ welfare, especially victims of the recent earthquake that hit the area.

Habyarimana cited improved business relationship with neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo as another important factor to help them achieve even more this year.
