DRC’s premier league side AS Vita has confirmed it interest in signing the APR pair of Kalisa Mao and Abbas Rassou.

The club’s head coach, Raoul Shungu, who is familiar with Rwandan football after two coaching spells at Rayon Sport, yesterday said that the team was on the verge of traveling to Kigali for friendlies against APR, SC Kiyovu and former club Rayon.

It is said that the Congolese’s side will use this trip to lure Mao and Rassou into joining the club.

"Mao and Rassou can add a lot to our side so we shall see if we can bring them on board,” said Shungu.
Shungu parted ways with the Blues last year over ‘irreconcilable differences’.

The Congolese then replaced Irishman Chris O’Longhlin at Vita SC after the club’s decision not to renew the latter’s contract.

In his first season at the club, he helped the Black Dolphins reach the quarter-finals of the Africa Confederations Cup although the club management has made it clear that they expect much this season after failing to get past the first hurdle this year following defeat against Nigeria’s Enyimba.

Till date, Shungu is still rated by many as Rayon’s most successful coach after guiding the club to four league titles (1997, 1998, 2002 and 2004) and one Cecafa Club championship (1998).
