Mutzig and Primus are the most popular local brews in Rwanda. Bars and restaurants are frequented daily by drinkers who want to enjoy these drinks.

These beer brands are among Rwanda’s several that include Amstel, Guinness, Tusker, Skol among others.
Rwandan’s love their beer on any day. Forget that neither barley nor hops grow here, beers will be served at wedding ceremonies and at any merry function.

According to Chris Mwumvaneza, 32, a taxi driver, four bottles of Mutzig makes his evening because he enjoys its taste and golden look.

"I really love cold Mutzig, after work I hang out with my friends in a very quiet bar and we comfortably sip our beers although most of my friends prefer Primus to Mutzig. This doesn’t stop me from taking Mutzig,” he said.

Jean Bosco Harerimana, 26, is a barber at Hope Saloon in Nyabugogo and would rather take a pint of Primus because, "the Primus bottle is big and that makes it cool.”

"Primus has a good taste and I drink more than four bottles once I hit the bar,” he said.

The bars have a lot to tell.

Nathan Kamanzi, a 26 year-old waiter at Stella Bar, says most clients order for Mutzig and Primus.

"Even though other beer brands like Guinness, Amstel, Tusker and Turbo King are consumed by customers, Mutzig and Primus still top the list of the most consumed beers at the bar,” Kamanzi said.

To fully understand Rwandans love for beers, drop by any joint and see guys sipping away at these beers as if there is no tomorrow.
