Dress to Impress on your First Date

Whether you are a guy or a girl going on your first date, giving off a good impression is crucial and looking your best should be a mutual effort. I’m not implying that one should pretend to be someone they’re not, all I’m saying is that a little grooming never hurt anybody!

Whether you are a guy or a girl going on your first date, giving off a good impression is crucial and looking your best should be a mutual effort. I’m not implying that one should pretend to be someone they’re not, all I’m saying is that a little grooming never hurt anybody!

The way you dress for a date can be compared to the icing on a cake. Imagine a cake that is wonderfully baked however the icing simply lacks perfection and doesn’t match up to the cake’s beauty. Such a cake will not look appealing and the onlooker may form a negative impression without giving it a second thought. The same applies for the clothes you wear when you go on a date; you are the cake and the icing is what you wear.

Read on for helpful tips on how to give a good impression while leaving your date in sheer amazement.

Guys here is one hint, most girls- if not all are put off by guys who do not make an effort to look good, so the extra effort really will go a long way!

Clothes like T- shirts and faded jeans should stay in your wardrobe. When you dress for a date, the idea is not to overdo it, but rather to show that you care about your appearance. A pair of black or navy blue jeans with a well fitted short sleeved shirt will make you look simple but sharp. For shoes, avoid trainers or sandals and stick to closed shoes that are both smart and casual. Finish off the deal with a spray or two of your favourite cologne.

Ladies, enhance your African beauty by accessorising with exotic African jewellery. A black outfit will create an illusion of a slimmer figure however if you are naturally dark in complexion it’s not a good idea to wear black.

Instead enhance your natural curves by wearing a brightly coloured knee length dress and seal it off with a belt above the waistline. A pair of stylish heels will make you look slimmer, and leave you feeling confident for the date!

If you like to keep your make-up simple and natural, a little face powder and lip gloss will work just fine. If your aim is to make a dramatic statement, bring out your eyes with an eye shadow that goes with your outfit. To keep your face in good balance, bold eye shadows should be complemented with a subtle lipstick colour, however if your lipstick is loud, side with a neutral eye shadow.

Follow these guidelines and not only will you feel great but you will be sure to have complements flying your way!

MUST READ TIPS:

Use Lotion. Some of you believe that your "natural” skin juices will somehow "counter attack” the layers, upon layers of ash on your skin, when what you really need is a bottle of lotion. Now we’re not talking about fancy lotions, just a bottle of Lubiderm or Vaseline or even a simple splash of some baby oil gel after your shower will do.

Don’t Kill Them With Your Cologne. Avoid the urge to douse yourself in your cologne of choice. Take a good shower and do this little trick instead. Squirt the cologne into the air (just ONE squirt) and immediately walk into the area you just misted.

Pay. This doesn’t have anything to do with dressing, but there is nothing more attractive than a man who pays the bill. We’re not saying blow your entire check on an eight course French dinner and a bottle of Dom, but do pay for the venti carmel macchiato or the movie.

Scientific studies show that men who pay on the first date are 2.6 times more likely to get laid (ok that isn’t true, but it does help).
